This course introduces the student to the problems of today's consumer citizen. Course content includes: sources of consumer protection, advertising and the consumer, principles of good buying, investing in housing, money management, savings and investments. 

 

The course is broken down as follows:

Unit 2 - Loans and Expenses

  • Financing Your Education

  • Independent Living – Moving; Lease Agreements; Tenants and Landlords; Roommates

  • Buying a Home

  • Cars and Loans

 

Unit 3 - Banking and Credit

  • Banking Services – Shopping for Banking Services; Cheques; Debit Cards.

  • Saving and Investing – common saving methods and popular investment vehicles; fraud awareness; comparing consequences of long and short-term investment decisions.

  • Credit and Credit Cards

  • In Trouble with Credit

 

Unit 4 - Consumer Knowledge

  • Influence of Advertising

  • Consumer Awareness and Marketing to Teens

  • Product Comparisons – Cars and Cell Phones

  • Consumer Privacy – Privacy and Information; Computers and online risks.
